After reading Ellisson's other books, The VV Inn Series, I was so excited when I learned she had a new series coming out. Than when I found out the premise, well I couldn't wait until she finished it. And I wasn't disappointed. It was worth the wait.

Vanilla on Top is a different type of erotic book. The characters are whole, real and you are able to get into their heads. I related with the main character, Heather, almost instantly. Her need to be something more, someone different, struck a chord with me. Heather is not your typical erotic romance novel lead. She is well aware of herself and what she wants. She is not ready to bow down to any man , and wants to set the pace in her relationship. She is tired of playing the lost girl begging for love.

Enter Tony. He starts off as the typical self centered playboy who thinks he is god's gift to woman. But he is struck by the power Heather has over him and his need to please her. He is transformed by her and his love for her grows until he has no chance but to be with her.  She refuses to be controlled by him, refuses to be played. And it wins his heart.

This is where Elilison shines, where she ups the anti on this genre. Both characters are substantial and successful in their own life's. Heather can stand on her own and needs no man. She is in control of a male dominated company (saving the day behind the scenes) and strives to be seen as a successful business woman. She doesn't need Tony to take care of her. Tony wants her for the amazing woman she is. I love  Heather's character. She is not drop dead gorgeous, she is beautiful in an understated way. She is classy and smart, with the right amount of spunk and fire. So refreshing for this type of story.

If you have stayed away from this genre in the past due to bad press for books like Fifty Shades of Gray,  don't be afraid to give this one a try.  Ellisson has upped the anti in the erotic fiction genre and will be a hard act to follow for any woman who wants eroticism mixed with real characters. The plot is different and smart, and throws you a couple of surprises. She has broken out of the mold and has shown herself a force to be reckoned with. No wonder this book has been on the New York Times Best seller list. I had to give it four stars.
