Super Giveaway Number Two: Rift Healer

Rift Healer
After a minor earthquake, the enchanted forest in Bidwell, MA, is infested with monster-spewing rifts. Gisele's great nephew, the gifted Micah, and his distant cousin, Selena, arrive to assist. Together with Gisele's summer students, twins Haley and Lacey, they will try to help the magical forest. Much to the consternation of the beautiful Selena, Micah identifies Haley as The One whom he'll share his future. But after witnessing a terrifying display of Micah's Gift, Haley cools to his advances and unexpectedly discovers her own Gift-- she can heal the earth. Monsters, mayhem, and teenage angst follow the small group as they confront evil in the forest and a dangerous prediction that 'one will fall'. Will they heal the rifts in time? Can they save the unicorns? And is Haley really destined to be with Micah?

Rift Healer is special to me because it was written by a fellow author from Spencer Massachusetts, Diane M Haynes. Also it features places I know and love, and introduces us to the magical little town of Bidwell. (Now before you go and look it up you won't find Bidwell on any map. It's one of those special worlds created by us authors.) Rift Healer is the book that begs you to keep reading. It pulls you in, and it's characters capture your heart.

When Haley and her twin Lacey meet a cryptic and eccentric fortune teller at a local carnival they are ready to dismiss her reading as fantasy. Well maybe not the part where Haley falls in love, she's been waiting for that to happen. They all but forget about it until the travel to Bidwell to spend the summer with their Grandmother, and all the events the fortune teller saw start to unfold.

While the girls continue their teaching with the magical Gisele, they navigate the trials of first love. In Fact it is Gisele's handsome and extremely gifted nephew that Haley falls in love with. Bringing another one of the gypsies visions to life. But what they don't know is that their summer will be so much more than falling in love. They will face magical demons, the fight to save an enchanted forest, and maybe even face the loss of one of their own.

The characters in this book are easy to like, infact you will find yourself holding your breath and willing them to be safe in every task they encounter. The tale of young love is sweet and simple. Refreshing in this time where so many authors make their teen characters get "hot and heavy" all too fast. The magical elements flow nicely and have a sense of reality about them that  immerses you in the story. It's the perfect book for upper middle grade readers that are Harry Potter fans. And it will still hold the attention of us adults who like to indulge in YA from time to time.

This book certainly has something for everyone. I loved it. I loved it so much so that I am teaming up with Diane to bring you this great giveaway. Few visitors crossed Gisele Westerfield's threshold that snow filled January in Bidwell MA.  So when she answered the soft knock at the front door, her emotions ranged from shock to pure delight. She was more than thrilled as her favorite relative sat down to tea in her cozy, herb filled kitchen. Micah, her handsome sixteen year old grandnephew arrived bestowing gifts- tiny antique bottles for her essential oils, Belgian chocolate and her favorite guilty pleasure- family gossip.
They'd been laughing and chatting for five  or ten minutes, certainly no more, when she noticed that his gaze was drawn to a framed photograph on the wall. Lacey and Haley Miller had posed beside their bikes with Lacey's boyfriend, Taylor, just last summer.
Micah studied the picture closely before he picked it up and his eyes narrowed. Gisele thought she heard  him mutter, "That's her. It's really her...." He tapped the photo. "Who's this?" He pointed to the girl in the center, one of her friend's Clara Miller's granddaughters, a pretty girl whose shoulder length, dirty-blonde hair gleamed in the July sunshine.  He moved the picture a fraction of an inch farther from his face. "Who is this again?" He asked as if he misunderstood her non-answer.  "It's nobody." Gisele tried to change the subject. "More tea? Cookies? How's your mother."

A little about Diane: On my brother's birthday, seven months after his passing, I awakened from a dream of three kids seated within a fairy ring, pastel orbs circling their heads. When a fairy landed on a girl's cheek, I was enchanted and wrote a twelve page short story. A few days later, I decided to expand the story and eventually, RIFT HEALER was born.
I believed this book to be a 'Spirit Gift' from my brother and dedicated it to him.

  1. I would like to read it because if Rebecca recommends it, then I know I'll love it!

  2. Sounds like a compelling read. I love enchanted forests and the whole idea of a Gypsy fortuneteller's predictions. By the way, I just told my husband about the Greg Hill Foundation. I'm sure it will assist in the healing process for all of us who are shocked and saddened by this horrific event.
